A London-based creative practice specialising in furniture and spatial design

company of things is known for designing beautifully considered spaces and objects, which combine playfulness, pared-back aesthetics, and an honest approach to materials. We seek to design harmonious spaces where humans and ‘things’ can co-exist, depend on each other and keep each other company.
Foremost in our approach is a respect for materials: their characteristics and traditions of use, as well as the possibilities they hold. One of our key considerations throughout our projects is the environmental legacy of our work. As such we will always consider the impact of a material or project over its whole life cycle and promote the use of lower ecological impact ideas.

company of things was founded by Aiko Kubo, whose sense of aesthetics and sensitivity to materials gives the studio its design direction. Aiko has a wealth of experience gained during her education in Japan and Sweden as well as her work as an interior and furniture designer in the UK. Aiko is a director of our sister brand Commissioned by you, a fabrication company based in London. During her time at CBY Aiko has delivered projects for clients that include internationally recognised institutions and award winning agencies, such as Royal Academy, Science museum, Inca Productions and Bompas and Parr. Aiko leads on design and project management at CBY, and is also responsible for its online presence.

company of things is a platform to express our creativity and experimental thoughts in object and spatial design and is a part of CBY. The portfolio shown here includes projects we have completed under CBY’s name before company of things was introduced.
